Braun Series 3 310s Highlights
Before going into the details of the 310s you must put its price in perspective and look for the features accordingly. It would be unfair to judge the shaver against the models of flagship series 7 and 9 that come at hefty prices. Therefore, in all fairness, we would be comparing it against the models that come in somewhat the same price range.
For a shaver that comes at as low a price as this, Braun has managed to put together a fine piece of electronic. It provides a closer shave but while it is at it, it makes no compromise on the safety and comfort of skin.
Despite lacking modern technologies like Autosense and Synchronic, it does a fine job of both comfort and closeness. The shaver is effective because of the combination of intelligent design and some well-thought-out features. In this section, we will have a look into what these features are.
Shaving Elements: 310s features three shaving elements, two of which are typical cutters, while the one in the middle is trimmer. The trimmer specializes in cutting the wild and unruly long hairs especially the strands that lie flat on the skin.
These shaving elements work together to provide a closer shave without producing irritation and discomfort.
Pressure Sensitive Blades: The pressure sensitivity of the blades plays a key role in keeping the skin comfortable while these are making cuts. Each of these blades has a separate suspension capable of retracing when subjected to pressure.
What it means is that on the flat areas like cheeks all the blades will come into play. However, in the tricky areas, these blades will retract and come back up according to the contours of the surface. This design has proved to be effective in keeping the skin comfortable by preventing unnecessary nicks and cuts.
3-Flex Head: Here is a bit of marketing gimmickry for you. As we said before, three shaving elements of 310s are pressure sensitive and move when going through different contours. However, Braun calls it a 3-flex head which might make you think that the head can move. The head does not pivot and this is no way near the new 360-degree flex head we see in newer Series 7 models.
Wet or Dry Shave: 310s gives you an option to switch between wet or dry shave according to your preferences. People with sensitive skin can use foam or gels to make it a little gentler on the skin. Clogging isn’t a problem as the gap between elements is wide enough to ensure a constant flow of debris through them.
Water Resistance: The water-resistance of the 310s would make you forget the fact that it does not come with a cleaning station. Because of the water resistance, you would not have to open the shaver up to clean with a brush. All you have to do is to put the head under running tap water and it will cleanse the shaver thoroughly.
Two NiMH Batteries: 310s contains two NiMH batteries that have an advantage over lithium-ion batteries of better retention. These batteries take almost an hour to charge and provide a runtime of about 20 minutes.
- Comes at a price that does not break the bank
- Great ergonomics to ensure a steady grip
- Water-resistant to enhance user-friendliness
- Automated voltage adjustment for traveling
- Quick Charge in 5 minutes is enough for a single shave
- The middle trimmer can get the difficult and unruly hairs
- Wet shave with foam or gel is possible for sensitive skins
- Shaving elements can retrace themselves to prevent discomfort
- Intelligent design that makes shave on difficult areas easy
- Decent, Elegant and attractive design
- The operation is a bit loud than some of the current shavers
- Does not come with a pop-up trimmer
- Not enough runtime
Braun Series 3 310s Review - A Gift For Intelligent Buyer in 2022
310s of the Braun Series 3 is a popular model mainly because of its simple and straightforward design. It does not have some fancy pieces of technology attached to it but it gets the job done. One of the key reasons behind its popularity is the economic price that is within the reach of almost every individual. However, the question is, has Braun compromised on its performance to make it economical? Let’s find out.
Design and Construction
As per Braun, 310s features an “intelligent design” which refers to the fact that it is easy to use on hard-to-reach areas. The upper part of the shaver looks wider and gives the impression that it might be hard to use on tricky areas like under the nose. However, it is not the case and in fact, it works amazingly in those areas mainly because of its well-thought-out intelligent design.
Shaving elements pop out of the head and are actually much sleeker than the part they are supported on. Therefore, when you employ it over the lips the popped-out elements easily reach the hairs and capture them effectively.
Braun used plastic as a construction material to make it lightweight and cost-effective. The lighter weight makes it easy to float around the contours of the face. On the sides, Braun has given it a matte finish to ensure the ergonomics of the shaver. These sides provide a steady and firm grip and resist slippage even when your hands are wet.
Performance of Shaver
Performance of the shaver is something that cannot be measured quantitatively, it is a subjective matter and everybody has different opinions on it. However, for us, the criteria to judge a shaver’s performance are the closeness of shave and the comfort of the skin. In this section, we will take a detailed look at how 310s perform on these aspects.
Closeness of Shave
Braun’s 310s uses three shaving elements to provide a close and clean shave and it is pretty good at it. These three elements consist of three ultra-sharp blades and SensoFoil to protect the skin from them.
The foils have pores to capture the hair and send them right towards the blades to make the cut. The ultra-sharp blades make cuts closer to the skin to give you that glowing skin you always wanted.
The part that sets this shaver apart is the middle trimmer specialized in cutting unruly hairs. No matter how long, thick, or wild the hair is, this element in the middle ensures their capture. In addition, the placement of this element in the middle makes sure you do not have to work for it. It would take down all the hairs without requiring you to put much of an effort.
Comfort During Shave
Modern shavers use different technologies to keep them gentle on the skin but it results in hiked prices. However, in the 310s Braun achieved almost the same level of comfort without using any of these technologies. Instead of incorporating new components, Braun has modified the existing pieces to make them both comfortable and cost-effective.
For starters, the blades are capable of retracting and coming back up again according to the constantly changing contours of the face. In addition, each of these blades has a separate suspension capable of moving back and forth and on its sides. The combination of both these features adapts the head according to the contours of the face and prevents unnecessary cuts and nicks.
Besides these, the shaver allows wet shave to people with sensitive skins. The use of foam and gels makes it gentler and kinder on the skin and prevents irritation or burning sensations.
Cleaning of Shaver
The water resistance of the shaver makes the cleaning process easier and convenient. For some shavers, even those that are waterproof, you have to disassemble the head to wash them. However, in this case, you don’t have to go through that trouble, just put it under the water and it will wash all the debris away.
Charging and Battery Life
This shaver can adapt to the voltage power ranging from 240 to 100V which makes it an excellent travel shaver. In addition, it also provides an option of quick charge that comes in handy when you forget to charge it.
Just plug it in for five minutes and it will generate enough power to give you a complete shave.
Replacement parts
Blades of the 310s are the only parts that would need replacement but that too after a year and a half. However, these blades do not come alone so you have to purchase a new head. The cost of the head is reasonable so you would not have a problem purchasing them after that long time.
Braun Series 3 310s Vs Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s
ProSkin 3040s is part of revamped series 3 that was launched recently. Though the basic design of both shavers is the same, being the latest one. 3040s has some new features.
The new model features Microcomb technology that catches unruly and rough hairs effectively and faster. This new feature improves the performance of the shaver on the denser and rougher beard growth.
Besides this, the 3040s comes with a built-in precision trimmer to shape the edges of the beard and sideburns. This is a handy feature and the addition of this can save time and bucks you spend at barbers.
Another aspect where 3040s performs better is the runtime that lasts about 45 minutes compared to 30 minutes of 310s.
The remaining features like wet and dry shave, shaving elements, and the overall design of both shavers are essentially the same. However, the addition of the above-mentioned features improves the performance of the 3040s significantly, especially on rough hairs.
Here is a brief overview of 310s Vs 3040s.
Model | 310s | 3040s |
---|---|---|
Shaving Elements | 3 | 3 |
Microcomb Technology | No | Yes |
Built-in Precision Trimmer | No | Yes |
Run Time | 20 minutes | 45 minutes |
Braun Series 3 310s vs 3010Bt
3010Bt is one of the two Shave&Style models along with 3000Bt. It utilizes the same shaver as in the newer series 3, for example, ProSkin 3040s.
Therefore, apart from the differences described above in 310s vs ProSkin 3040s, it comes with different grooming accessories. However, 3010Bt differs from ProSkin 3040s in the fact that it does not have a slide-out trimmer which we see in the 3040s. Nonetheless, this is compensated by a trimmer attachment.
3010Bt essentially comes with a protective cap, trimmer attachment, and five combs attachments which give you the ability to cut your beard at different lengths.
Overall, although the shaving performance is more or less the same, 3010Bt carries more value with its attachments. It also has a better runtime of 45 minutes as opposed to 20 minutes of 310s. The overall price difference is only $10.
Here is a brief overview of 310s Vs 3010Bt.
Model | 310s | 3010Bt |
---|---|---|
Shaving Elements | 3 | 3 |
Microcomb Technology | No | Yes |
Built-in Precision Trimmer | No | No |
Beard Attachments and Trimmer | No | Yes |
Run Time | 20 minutes | 45 minutes |
Conclusion
310s from Braun series 3 provides an excellent option for budget-conscious customers. It comes at a very reasonable price and with a good performance.
Although we can be critical of the fact that it comes without a pop-up trimmer and a below-average runtime, there is so much you can ask for a price like this.
Although the newer upgrades like 3040s and 3010Bt cover some of the shortcomings 310s has, it still is a great bargain for the price it comes at.
