For a long time, male body hair grooming was not a popular topic and was largely ignored by the mainstream. However, in recent years there has been a shift towards more open discussions about male grooming and body hair, and many men are now taking a greater interest in maintaining their body hair.
This has led to the development of a range of products and tools specifically designed for male grooming. The Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 is one such product designed for below-the-belt grooming. Last weekend, I took it for a test drive to determine whether it’s worth your time (and money). Here are my thoughts!
Salient Features
Compact in size and waterproof, the fourth generation Lawn Mower hair trimmer promises quality male grooming. Manscaped has upped the ante with this one, taking its sweet time to refine its performance, durability, and features. The new body is much more sleek, fitting nicely into your hand.
The beveled edges offer a solid grip, even when the unit is wet. Additionally, the smaller head is more suitable for getting into tight spots. Then there’s the wireless charging dock that allows easy charging without the hassle of a wire.
A lack of a charging port also means it’s much easier to clean and less likely to gather dirt. Another feature we found incredibly useful around the family jewels is its spotlight. Now you can easily see what exactly you are “scaping”.
Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 List Of Features
- Waterproof – Easy cleanup and shower trimming
- Compact – I can easily get in and around the goodies
- Replaceable blades – No need to throw out your trimmer if the blades stop working
- Wireless charging – No cord to fuss around for charing
- Charge Indicator LEDs – So, you know exactly how much charge is left
- Powerful battery – Your shaver won’t bail out in the middle of the session
- LED spotlight – You always know where those blades are heading
- Skin-safe technology – Prevents any nicks and cuts on your sensitive regions
- Low noise – So, you won’t disturb others
First Test: Body Grooming
For the first test, I used the Lawn Mower on my arms, underarms, and chest. It was easier to use on the contoured regions. Cleaning armpits was a real breeze with or without the guards.
As for the back, I asked my girlfriend for a helping hand. She trimmed through my extensive back hair without any problems. However, because of the smaller head size, trimming hair on large areas of the back took a bit of time.
Second Test: The Region Down Under
For the second test, I took the Lawn Mower to tour the land down under. I usually don’t prefer a complete baby look. Just a close and clean package is fine. And the new Lawn Mower performed well in that regard.
Its moving blade is offset from the fixed blade, which protects the skin from any cuts. Its downside is that the blade cannot cut the hair at the skin level. So, if you’re looking for silky smooth skin, you will be disappointed.
Because of the compact size, navigating the Lawn Mower through different parts is easy. While you can get a good trim without any attachment, I recommend using the smallest one around the thin ballsack skin. That little LED spotlight comes in handy down there.
Pro tip: For extremely coarse hair, keep them long enough to prevent any chaffing.
Third Test: Cleaning The Lawn Mower 4.0
As I previously mentioned, the Lawn Mower 4.0 Manscaped is waterproof. It has an IPX7 rating, meaning you can immerse it in 1-meter water for 30 minutes.
This makes cleaning pretty straightforward. Use the tiny brush to remove hair from the blade and quickly rinse it under the tap. I usually wash the guard and the chamber containing the drive shaft. Finally, pat it dry with a towel.
Other Notable Features
Noise
This is one area where the Manscaped 4.0 shines during use. It’s a very quiet body hair trimmer, living up to the Manscaped’s claims in this regard. I have used several trimmers, including the tiny Norelcos and other quiet Philips groomers, and no other trimmer holds a candle to LM4.0. It’s by far the quietest body trimmer I’ve ever used.
Battery Life & Charging
Like the previous generations of Manscaped Lawn Mower, the 4.0 comes with a 600mAh Lithium-ion battery. Therefore, you should expect 90 minutes of cordless trimming on a single charge. While it’s not as good as its competitors, like the Philips Multigroom 7000, you can still easily complete a full-body grooming session.
As for charging, the LM4.0 comes with a wireless charging cradle. It’s a very practical and quality accessory; however, replacing it will render your trimmer completely useless. Fitting the LM4.0 with a USB 3.0 port would have been a great upgrade from the previous generation of Manscaped Lawn Mowers.
With the charging dock, it takes approximately 3 hours to go from zero charges to 100%. Unfortunately, there’s no quick charge feature to speed things up.
I usually leave my trimmer in the charging dock overnight to fully charge it for the morning. It comes with an overcharging protection circuit and will not impact battery performance.
Replacement Parts Availability Details
Fortunately, this Manscaped trimmer uses the same blade as 3.0. So you can easily buy a new blade from the Manscaped official website or Amazon. Usually, the blade withstands up to 3 months of heavy trimming without losing the cuts. But when that happens, know that the blade isn’t cheap.
What Is SkinSafe Technology?
Skin-safe technology is just a fancy name for Manscapped modified trimmer 4.0. They have set the ceramic cutting blade back to approximately 3mm, preventing sharp edges.
This is different from what you may want for a fine-edge facial trimmer. However, it works well for trimming down any contours and hair on the soft skin of other body areas.
What’s In The Box: The Package Details
The Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 comes nicely packed in a sleek drawer-style box. The packaging looks and feels premium. It’s perfect for storage as well as a gift offering.
Inside, you find two adjustable trimming guards, a tiny trimmer cleaning brush, a quick start guide, and a user manual. There’s also a charging dock with cable and power brick.
Lawn Mower 2.0 Vs Lawn Mower 3.0 Vs 4.0: Should You Upgrade?
If you’re already using the Manscaped Lawn Mower 3.0, here’s what you need to know about whether you should upgrade or not:
- The latest generation Lawn Mower 4.0 features the same motor and blade as your 3.0 version.
- The battery also has the same capacity offering a similar discharge time and cordless use.
- The only major difference is the lock function in 4.0 which stops it from accidentally turning the device on during travel.
- 3.0 also has only one guard, while 4.0 comes with two.
Therefore, if you already have a 3.0 in good condition, I think you should wait to upgrade. You will get a very similar performance. However, if you are upgrading from the Lawn Mower 2.0 to 4.0, that makes a lot of sense. You get a better battery, powerful motor, flashlight, and cordless charging.
Final Thoughts
So, how good is the manscaped lawn mower 4.0? I’d say Very Good. It performed well for my grooming routine, and I am still using it. The trimmer works great with or without the guard, and the hair is trimmed as efficiently as I expected.
I also love its unique features like LED spotlight, power status LEDs, low noise, and wireless charging. But I have only been using it for a month. Only time will tell how the blades and assembly will hold up.
FAQs
Is The Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 Suitable For Beard Trimming?

The clipper guards can also get easily clogged up with thick whiskers. Although it’s easier to handle due to its compact size, I don’t recommend using it for facial hair.

Yes, it comes with several genital-friendly features for refining sensitive and hard-to-navigate areas of the body.
