The Quick Facts
Philips Norelco Shaver 4100 is jam-packed with technology. Its Flex and Float system allows the shaving head to smoothly follow the contours of your face and provide a clean and close shave.
Aquatec Technology means that the shaver is completely waterproof and it can be used for both wet and dry shaving. Dry shaving is easy, just turn it on and go.
As far as the battery goes, the Philips 4100 won’t disappoint you. It is a Li-Ion unit which provides you enough juice for 50 minutes of shaving.
What’s more, the 3-minute quick charge option will always save you during emergencies as it will give you just enough juice for a fast shave. The LED indicator will always help you out with figuring out when to charge the battery.
Since it’s waterproof, just rinse it under running tap water after you’re done shaving.
The Norelco Shaver 4100 comes with a two-year warranty. If for whatever reason you don’t like it, you can always return it and get your money back thanks to the 45-day risk-free trial period.

Who Is It For?
If you need a good electric shaver which can jump in as a beard trimmer from time to time, this could be it. Especially if you want a shaver that feels comfortable to use.
It may not be the most competitively priced product on the market, but it offers good value for the money. Countless customers found no major flaws with it, and neither have I.
Included in the box are the electric shaver itself, the power cord, a protection cap, and a cleaning brush. At this price range, you can’t really expect an electric shaver with a separate charging station.
Design and Ergonomics
Philips Norelco Shaver 4100 is designed very ergonomically. It feels rather hefty and weighty once you take it in hand, but all the materials seem high quality. Since it’s waterproof, it could have had some rubbery areas to provide more grip, especially for those who prefer wet shaving, but that’s not a deal breaker.
The shaving head seems like a serious piece of engineering thanks to the Flex and Float System. The blades follow the contours of your face, while the shaving head moves in four directions.
The blades are low friction, which means they will never get too hot. If you like to take your time while shaving, that could bring you peace of mind.
Norelco 4100 can work in both wet or dry conditions, depending on your preference. It does provide a very precise shave because the shaving head follows the lines of your face.
Dual Precision shaving heads enable the shaver to deal with both short and long hairs, while the Super Lift and Cut system makes it easy to lift any flat hairs before cutting them. This eliminates the need to pass certain areas several times, as may sometimes be necessary with electric shavers.
If you prefer shaving with cream, this shaver works like a breeze in these conditions as well. You can even shave in the shower, which I know is great news for many of you out there.
An integrated pop-up trimmer can be used for fine-tuning the appearance of your sideburns and your mustache, but don’t expect it to work magic. It’s just an ordinary trimmer.
Those with thick hairs should think twice before purchasing this electric razor. Yes, its motor is strong, but when it faces the stubborn opposition of a thick beard it may come off as a bit underpowered.
Battery Life and Charging
This is where Philips Norelco 4100 really shines. It only takes one hour to charge the Li-Ion battery and it gives you enough juice for about 50 minutes of performance.
The LED indicator shows you when the battery is full and when it needs to be charged.
It’s worth repeating that there is also the three-minute quick charge option for those situations where you need to move fast but can’t really go anywhere unless you shave first.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Just rinse in running tap water. Any stubborn debris can be cleaned with the cleaning brush included in the package. Once rinsed, just leave it to dry in the air.
Don’t use any cloth as it can damage the shaving head.
Philips claims that the shaving head needs to be replaced once a year. This isn’t that bad, especially considering the fact that replacement heads aren’t really expensive. The heads are replaced very easily.
Philips Norelco shaver 4100 vs 4500
If you’re looking for alternatives and are ready to spend a bit more money for an even better shaving experience, you can always try out the Philips Norelco 4500 AT830, which is a step up from the model we’re talking about in this review, the Norelco 4100.
It is a more expensive model than the 4100, and it is characterized by a dark grey color instead of metallic blue featured on the 4100. The 4500 has all the features of the 4100, but one major difference is that it comes with a docking station used for charging. Obviously, it also explains why it is slightly more expensive.
Do you really need the docking station, when the 4100 provides you with the same performance for less money? I think not. I do not recommend spending more money without getting any exciting new features.
The Final Word
The Philips Norelco Shaver 4100 is an excellent piece of kit, especially when you take the price tag into consideration.
As shown in this Philips Norelco Shaver 4100 review, it works well in dry and wet shaving conditions and it provides a nice trimming option. With such a great battery life, you’ll probably forget when you last charged it, and besides, you can always use the quick charge option.
The only major downside to it is that it can’t really deal with thick hairs, but that really can’t be resolved unless you’re using really expensive, pro grade electric razors.
