Wouldn’t it be great if you could have perfectly smooth arms and legs without having to shave or visit a beautician? Just remember how painful those visits can be. Also, razors may cause nasty cuts and they don’t last long.
To avoid the hassle of shaving or waxing, you should consider an electric shaver. Philips is one of the best known electric shaver manufacturers in the world, so check out my Philips SatinShave Advanced review to make sure it can help you too.

Philips SatinShave Advanced Review Overview
The Philips SatinShave (model BRL140) gives you a smooth shave without the irritation of traditional razors. You can use it to shave your armpits, legs, and all other parts of your body.
Is the Philips SatinShave Advanced the Right Solution for You?
For some reason, my hands get awfully shaky whenever I use a razor, not to mention the awkward positions once I get down to the bikini area. The worst thing is that I always seem to miss a spot or two.
Getting a wax is no better. Admittedly, your skin becomes smooth and completely hair-free afterward but the entire process is painful and may last longer than you care for it to last. Also, I usually need to apply some lotion to deal with skin irritation.
If you are struggling with the same problems, the Philips SatinShave Advanced may be just the thing you need.
This electric shaver comes with 3 shaving accessories: a travel cap, efficiency cap, and bikini trimmer comb. Also included are a charging cord, travel pouch, and skin stretcher.
The appearance is decidedly feminine: pearl white body with pink accent.
According to the manufacturer, the SatinShave has an award-winning ergonomic design. The dimensions are 2.2 x 4.2 x 7.3 inches at the widest, which doesn’t exactly say anything but let me tell you that it fits well in your hand.
There’s a power button right smack in the middle and a battery indicator at the bottom of the device. It doesn’t make a lot of noise at all.
The shaver has a relatively small oval shaver head. The head features a floating foil which allows you to naturally follow the contours of your body. The floating foil also helps you keep close contact with the skin, ensuring a close shave without having to apply too much pressure.
It is worth mentioning that the size and shape of the head might make shaving your armpits a bit tricky. However, with some practice, you may overcome this downside.
The pearl-tip trimmer is designed for the care and safety of sensitive skin. This accessory should give you a smooth shave without any scratches. The trimmer glides easily over your skin, but you might not get a very close shave in some areas.
The S-shaped handle might be one of the best features. You will get maximum control no matter which way you move the shaver. The shaver naturally glides along your body or legs without twisting or slipping.
You can use this electric shaver in the shower, which is a must-have feature. The anti-slip grip lets you hold the device firmly in your hand.
As its name suggests, this accessory is designed to help you stretch your skin to easily reach even the smallest hair. This is a nice but kind of useless accessory. Very few users have actually tested it out and most of us use our hands to stretch the skin. But if it seems convenient to you, feel free to give it a try.
This electric shaver uses a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. On a single charge, you get about 1 hour of battery life. You should note that the shaver needs to be fully charged before you use it for the first time.
One major downside is the very long charging time. It takes 8 hours to fully charge the SatinShave, which as you can imagine might be problematic at times.
Philips offers a warranty with the purchase of this device. As is the case with most manufacturers, they might only honor the warranty if you purchase the item from an authorized dealer.
If you are looking for a better charging time, more features, and enhanced performance, you should check out the Philips SatinShave BRL170. Also known as the SatinShave Prestige, the BRL170 is slightly more expensive than the Philips BRL140 but it has better charging time and more accessories.
The SatinShave Prestige is a 2-in-1 shaver. It comes with a shaver head and a bikini trimmer. Unlike the SatinShave Advanced, the Prestige features dual-flex foil for an even closer shave. And the multi-flex shaver head allows you to easily reach even the most remote areas of your body.
Additionally, the Prestige also comes with a trimming comb & head, travel/protective cap, efficiency cap, and travel pouch. The trimmer is pearl-tipped to protect your skin. The shaver head features comfort cushions that provide a soft touch, especially in sensitive areas.
The BRL170 has the same ergonomic anti-slip handle as the SatinShave BRL140 to make shaving under the shower a breeze. However, the charging time is much better. You can get a full charge in one hour or opt for the 5-minute quick-charge if you are in a hurry. The Prestige also has a battery indicator at the bottom of the device.
Overall, the Philips SatinShave Advanced offers good value for the money. It provides you with a more than satisfactory shave. But if you prefer quick charging time and more accessories, you should give the Prestige version a try. At a slightly higher price, the Prestige may give you a more premium shaving experience.
