You may find it difficult to find the right shaver for you, with all the different brands out there, each with its own uniqueness and advantages. Ideally, your choice for a shaver would be one that suits your skin type and facial hair as well as personal preferences.
If you are looking for a quality shaver that delivers precision trimming then the Wahl LifeProof shaver is something that you’d like to consider. This shaver has impressive features that add value to your personal grooming, hopefully making your mornings a little less hectic and a lot smoother. To make your shaver shopping adventure a little easier, I have reviewed some of the shavers in the LifeProof series, specifically the Wahl 7061-100, and also compared this model to other models under the Wahl brand.
This review also covers its features and suitability for your shaving and trimming needs. As with all reviews, I try to keep it as unbiased as I possibly can and also provide as much useful information that would help you make an informed purchasing choice.
Wahl LifeProof 7061-100: An Introduction
The Wahl 7061-100 shaver is a high-impact dual foil rechargeable shaver that is not only waterproof but also shock resistant, which to me is an excellent feature considering the number of times a shaver is dropped by accident in the shower.
If you’re a person that shaves almost every other day, then great news- this shaver can work for stubbles that are within the 1 to 2-day growth. It also comes equipped with a pop-up precision ground trimmer so you can shave or trim your beard or mustache.
Another aspect of the shaver that I personally like is the rubber grips which make handling the shaver easier. The better grip made it easier to get a closer and even more precise shave. Using it, I also feel that the rubber grips help with preventing unwanted cuts because it makes gripping strong. This is definitely a plus point if you are someone that prefers shaving in the shower or using foam. I feel much safer having a stronger grip, especially when shaving the jawline and neck.
If color is something that you are keen on, then the LifeProof 7061-100 would fit right in your grooming essentials. Unlike the other models under the Wahl brand, the 7061-100 model comes in a black and yellow body which is certainly attractive on its own. To me, the color is a refreshing change to the other stainless steel look of the Wahl models.
The shaver does not come with its own cleaning station so cleaning has to be done manually, usually just by running it under a tap. Because my hair was considerably short when I used this shaver, there were really small bits sticking to the blades so I used my shower water jet stream instead to clean. Some shavers come with their own cleaning station but this one does not but cleaning this shaver isn’t a tedious task.
Wahl LifeProof 7061-100: Cutting features that make it worth your attention
The Wahl LifeProof series is an ideal shaver for everyday use as it does an excellent job clearing and cleaning your face to ensure a stubble-free, smooth skin surface. With all its features, you might think that this Wahl waterproof trimmer comes with a hefty price tag but coming in under $100 might just be another reason for you to pick this up. Despite its affordable price tag, this shaver has impressive performance and great features that make it a value-for-money razor especially if you are on a budget. The features in this shaver are practical, useful, and do the work, unlike similarly priced rivals. Here are the features of this shaver that you would definitely find handy in your grooming requirements:
For someone who drops his shaver plenty of times, the rubberized grip is a much-welcomed feature in the Wahl series. While most of the shavers under this brand are mostly stainless steel except for the side grips, the 7061-100 comes with the full texturized grip which ensures that it doesn’t slip easily and makes shaving in the shower or even over the sink easier. Plus, the black and yellow body adds the coolness factor to this shaver.
This shaver has 90 minutes of battery life, which is convenient for those who prefer to shave often and not worry about having to recharge every other time. You would find this feature very rewarding like I did since I mostly shave in the morning and time is of the essence. The one last thing you want to worry about is your shaver running low on power.
The Wahl Life Proof shaver comes with a longer than average warranty period. Unlike other shavers which are warranted for only two years, Wahl gives you a maximum of five years warranty. To me, this is a good thing because it makes you feel that the product can last you for 5 years before it starts getting wonky.
It’s waterproof up to 3 feet (1 Meter), just in case you wanted to know. Wahl does not specify if it is entirely waterproof or partially waterproof but I’ve used this in the shower almost all the time when I shave and have experienced no issues whatsoever. While I’m not going to plunge my shaver into a tub of water, it is just good to know in the event you do end up dropping it in the bucket of water or your bathtub.
No pull or snag trimming
I would personally recommend any shaver that gives you no-snag trimming because who doesn’t like that? The Wahl LifeProof 7061-100 was tested on my coarse and wiry beard hair and as long as the hair length was not more than two or three days in growth, there was no snagging, and to me, this is an excellent feature. I also personally like its flex-foils feature- it gave me a comfortable shave, especially at the nooks and contour of the face and neck where I usually end up nicking myself.
I am extremely impressed with this shaver’s durability. The LifeProof Shave comes with high-impact shockproof housing and they are not kidding. I dropped this shaver three times on separate occasions on my bathroom floor and I did not see any cracks or chipped housing. All my other shavers did not survive my clumsiness.

How does the Wahl LifeProof 7061-100 compare with Smart Shave #7061-900 & Speed Shave 7061-500?
If a striking yellow body is not something that appeals to you, then you might want to consider the stainless steel shavers that are 7061-900 and 7061-500. I personally think that all Wahl shavers are of good quality, it just boils down to what your grooming needs are and what priorities you place when it comes to your facial hair.
- Waterproof up to 3 feet for 30 minutes
- The precision ground trimmer blade
- 90 minutes of run time, long-lasting lithium-ion battery technology
- Includes kit with charger, zipper pouch, and styling guide
- One minute quick charge time, one hour charge time for full 90 minutes of operation
- All of them have dual-floating heads.
- When it comes to shaving capabilities, the Smart Shave boasts an advanced power meter. It is also built to cut hairs in any direction they are growing so that you can achieve the best shave with little shaving repetition. This shaver can also shave hair that has long grown into the 3 to 4 days period.
- The best thing about the Smart Shave is its power meter capability as well as a smart charging feature that tells you when your battery is running low and alerts you to charge it. I personally like this because let’s face it, we can all do with an alert on our gadgets.
- The Speed Shave does not have smart charging capabilities neither does it have a battery meter. It also is not shockproof.
- The Speed Shave is a pretty decent shaver that does the job well.
- Retailing at the higher end of the price tag, the speed shaver can be considered the less advanced cousin of the 7061-100 and the 7061-900.
Is the Wahl LifeProof 7061-100 the shaver for you?
If you have a meticulous shaving ritual and you prefer the clean-cut look without any stubbles showing on any given day, then this is the shaver for you. The highlight of the 7061-100 is its precision trimmer which I feel is ideal for when you want to create detailing on your sideburns as well as any edging. The precision trimmer can also be used for creating an even line-up on your mustache and beard, preserving the length and maintaining the look of the beard and mustache.
However, I really wished this shaver came with its own dock because it just makes it easier to store or organize your bathroom sink space, especially if you have a small bathroom. It would be great if the 7061-100 also came with a smart charging capability that told you when it was time to charge. However, with the affordable price tag, this shaver gives you plenty of features and convenience.
What else do you need to know?
This shaver can be purchased at conventional stores and online. I purchased mine online and it took about 3 days to arrive at my address so if reading this review convinces you to purchase a shaver, then check out any online retailer such as Amazon.
If you are worried about spare parts, well as long as if you are within the 5 year warranty period, just give their customer support a call. I would highly recommend that you register your product as soon as you receive it in order to activate the warranty. I looked at their website and it seems that they do have service centers in all major states in the US so that’s another plus point for buying from an established brand.
I would certainly keep the Wahl LifeProof 7061-100 as part of my grooming essentials simply because of its cutting precision and also its 5-year warranty. This shaver would probably occupy my bathroom sink for a good three to five years because I am planning to keep my clean-shaven look, only for work purposes and minimal beard if I feel like walking on the wild side for a little bit.
Trying this shaver out, I am glad that it also works amazingly well on my coarse hair with no snagging at all. Also, being the butterfingers that I am, I would highly recommend it to anyone like me, who drops their shaver frequently because this shaver is built strong.
